National Geographic’s its impact-driven campaign “One for Change” Was Launched By Dia Mirza

The National Geographic today announced it would showcase a series of short films, spotlighting 10 individuals from across India, who are taking significant steps towards planet conservation and restoration starting from Earth Day, April 22.

Termed an “impact-driven” campaign, the ‘One For Change’ series of short films, was launched by Dia Mirza, actor and UN Environment’s Goodwill Ambassador for India, and Kevin Vaz, head, Network Entertainment Disney Star, along with some of the changemakers.

Earth Day 2022 is celebrated on April 22 every year. This year’s theme is ‘Invest In Our Planet’.

Dia Mirza said, “1.3 billion people. Imagine, if each one of us took at least one action, imagine the kind of difference we would make. All you need is one resolute mind”.

She also said that she herself composite all her kitchen waste and makes planters which are very popular in her bldg .jokingly she added that she us the offucial kachrewali of her bldg. She also follows seven principles to protect earth ,like seven colours of rainbow , golden rule is recycle your waste

If we can actually make people think that if these individuals can do, we can do too, I think our job is done,” Vaz said.

He also said that NatGeo plans to feature 30 such people over the year but starting with these 10 on Earth Day.

The ten changemakers featured in the series are:

Vani Murthy- Known as the Worm Queen, Vani is spreading awareness about the importance of composting

Purnima Barman Devi- The leader of the Hargila Army, working towards the protection of endangered Greater Adjutant Stork

Tejas Sidnal – An architect who has innovated a unique tile that is made from carbon waste

Venkatesh Charloo – A pioneering marine conservationist, helping in coral restoration in Goa

Vidyut Mohan – 2020 ‘UNEP Young Champion of the Earth’, Vidyut has created a machine that converts waste farm residue into products of value for farmers

Varsha Raikar – RJ with Radio Bundelkhand who raises awareness against climate change

Rukmani Katara- CEO of a solar company, igniting a renewable energy revolution in rural India

Poonam & Aditya Singh- A couple that is rewilding barren land on the outskirts of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve as a buffer between man and animal

Thulasi Gouda- Padma Shri winner Thulasi has been preserving forests in her village for 50 years and is called the Living Encyclopedia of the forests

Sonam Wangchuk- An eco-architect who has pioneered the creation of carbon neutral structures in Ladakh using elements from nature
