Overview : Though its a remake of telugu movie by the same name and same director but presentation is totally different.
Storyline : The story begins with a young boy in New York City who buys a book titled Jersey from a bookstall but later gives it to a girl who came to purchase it. The girl asks the reason why he’s letting her have the copy to which he says that it’s his father’s story , the story then goes into flashback in the year 1985 -86, where Arjun Talwar ( Shahid Kapoor) a ranji trophy winner from punjab cricket team, despite of that he is not selected in Indian Cricket Team , he is frustrated and leaves cricket , he is married to Vidya(Mrunal Thakur) ,and has a son too, Later he takes up a job but unfortunately he is framed in a bribe case , he is suspended from the job, this leaves him frustrated with life , The movie then jumps to ten years later when Arjun is 36 years old, wherein he is jobless and often taunted by his wife and other people for doing nothing and labels him as loser , the only hope for Arjun is his son Kittu ,(Ronit Kamra ) who never judges him and loves his father immensely,For kittu his father is a hero . Kittu also loves cricket and plays for his school team , On his birthday Kittu ask for indian cricket jersey worth Rs 500 , from his father ,thereon Arjun’s struggle to fulfill his son’s wish begins , frustrated from all angles he decides to revive his craft of cricket and desires to play cricket again , will he be able to fulfill his second inninigs in cricket at the age of 36 forms the rest of the story .
Technical Review : Director Gautham Tinnauri who has also directed the telegu version of this film, has very well directed the hindi version too.The film engages audience right from the beginning of Arjun Talwars emotionally striking journey ..It will connect with the audience as if its their own story ..The screenplay of the movie is excellent and the cricket choreography is brilliant as Arjun gives boundary crash sixer shots..Pankaj Kapur Arjun’s Coach and Mentor supports him through out his journey , The Director imparts strong life lessons in every scene and urges the audience to stand strong and be hopeful no matter how difficult the situation is
Performances : Shahid Kapoor waited a long for this movie to release in theatre and the wait is worth while as he has given best performance of his life .
From being a rebel during his mid-20s to being an emotionally sober man in his late 30s, Shahid has given his best , his bonding with his son is strong ,and is the highlight of entire show. Their scenes are not just well written but very well enacted by the two actor,
Mrunal Thakur as Vidya is also good and she has very well played her character
Pankaj Kapoor is the icing on the cake , his bond with shahid in reel and real life can be much connect with the audience ..There are some humorous moments too between two of them
Final Words : Jersey is not just a sports movie but it is an emotional journey of a player that will melt your heart and make you cry and cheer at the same time . A must watch movie for all in a theatre near you.
