Overview:The Uprising (2026) is a gritty, visceral historical epic

Storyline: The story is set in era of 1381 Peasants’ Revolt in post-plague medieval England.  During that era the country wasfacing Black Death, brutal taxation, and royal overreach under a young King Richard II , further to that our story follows a peasant named “Ploughman” (Andrew Garfield, who has lost his wife and children to the recent plague and who had triggered the revolution . It happened so , that the advisors to the young King Richard II (Woody Norman) wanted to raise funds to support ongoing wars but won’t take it from the merchant class because they don’t want to give a seat of power to merchants, and the Church also refuses to part with its wealth. That leaves taxing the peasants. As local lords extort money from peasants and sexually assault their young women under the pretext of “checking their age,” Ploughman flies into a fury and fights back. His rebellion coincides with the fight of priest John Ball (Jamie Bell), former nun Alyce (Thomasin McKenzie), and ex-soldier Wat Tyler (Cosmo Jarvis). As their forces mass on London, agendas conflict, with some seeking revenge against the King’s counselors while those like Ploughman only want redress of grievances and greater freedom following that the revolution turned into riots and many twist and turns happens forms the crux of the movie

Technical Review : Director Paul Greengrass uses his famous handheld, shaky-camera style to make the muddy, violent revolts feel terrifyingly real.

The action is unflinching, but it never loses sight of the human story. It is a tale of freedom over tyranny. Hope over despair.

The narrative drags mid-way due to extended political discussions at Windsor Castle before rushing toward its climax. 

Performances:Andrew Garfield brings emotional gravity and soulfulness to a fictionalized everyman figure leading the revolt.

Cosmo Jarvis and Jamie Bell earn strong praise for adding grit and authenticity as historical rebel leaders. 

Katherine Waterston delivers a standout turn as the cold queen mother, supported by Tom Hollander and Stephen Dillane playing scheming members of the royal council

Final Words : A solid, thought-provoking historical drama best suited for fans of grounded period epics and political thrillers.
