Review Of Movie Main Wapas Aaunga-A Pure Love Story

Director: Imtiaz Ali

Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Vadang Raina, Sharvari Wagh, Rajat Kapoor, Vinod Nagpal, Manish Chaudhuri

Overview : A  Grand Son travels to Pakistan to fulfill the final wish of his dementia-stricken grandfather.

Storyline :The narrative moves seamlessly across borders

distinct eras using a non-linear structure. In the present day, the story revolves around  Nirvair (Diljit Dosanjh), a somewhat directionless and commitment-phobic young man who isvworking as software engineer by day and stand up comedian by night in london , he is loser in every aspect whether career or love . His world  takes a turn when his grandfather, Ishar / Keenu (played in his twilight years by Naseeruddin Shah and in young age the character is played by vedang raina ) , suffers a stroke and begins having intense, vocal outbursts driven by long-suppressed trauma. He is suffering from demantia.

Nirvair reaches India and try to understand what his grand father  going through as he speaks only to him and as he is suffering from dementia he is reliving the era of partition

To understand his grandfather’s agony, Nirvair digs into the past.  The film transports us to pre-Partition Punjab, village Sargodhsa  where a young, starry-eyed Keenu (Vedang Raina) is deeply in love with Jiya (Sharvari). who is a Muslim .When partition was declared  and borders  were abruptly drawn  there was

violence  and ravages  everywhere .Keenu and Jiya’s world, and heir lives are torn apart. as sarhofhav was divided into pakistan side .Keenu had promised Jiya that he will not leave but in case he has to for the monentbthen he will come back  . From thereon there are many twists and turns in the story  and it showcases  Nirvair’s modern journey to help his grandfather find closure for  the unfinished promise made decades ago to Jiya this all forms the crux of the film

Technical Review: The Director has presented the movie as  a  Humane Approach to Partition: Unlike aggressive, hyper-nationalistic period dramas, this film doesn’t villainize any specific community.

The directory has  also presented the movie in a simple format  focusing  on true and pure love .Accompanied by Sylvester Fonseca’s brilliant cinematography, the film looks like classic, evocative cinema.

A.R. Rahman’s  music and background score are top notch

But the length of the movie looks streched

the grandson’s present-day  efforts occasionally loses momentum before finding its footing in a  highly emotional climax.

Performances:  Naseeruddin Shah is the soul of the movie ,his portrayal of a fading mind clinging desperately to a 78-year-old love is an absolute masterclass in acting

Vedang raina gives fabulous performance, his transition from an innocent and starry eyed lover to  heart broken grief is something to look forward to.

Sharvari  brings immense grace and mischief to her Urdu speaking role

Diljit Dosanjh is good

as a grandson helping his grandfather  who is seeking closure but his personal love life is incredible lost

Final Words : It’s a slow burn and  emotiolly intense cinema that will moist your eyes

Ratings : 3.5*/5*
