Overview: Bandar tells a shocking and disturbing story of an man accused of a crime he claims he did not commit.
Storyline: The Story revolves around middle aged struggling artist Samar Mehra ( Bobby Deol) who once worked in tv shows , but his aim is to work in films , in the meantime for livelihood he performs on stage , one day when he returns to mumbai at his home after performing in Delhi , cops arrive at his flat to arrest him on the charges of raping a woman named Gayatri
(Sapna Pabbi) , Samar had met her some time before through a dating app ,after some meetings, Samar was physically involved with her but blocked her after she started behaving erratically .At the police station gayatri and his lawyer comes well prepared whereas Samar’s lawyer fail to match their arguments, Samar is sent to judicial custody for 15days and later to Taloja Prison where all under trails are kept , Samar gets the shock of his life as prison life involves living in unhygienic and uninhabitable conditions. Moreover, since he is accused of a rape case, he also faces intense scrutiny from the other undertrials.He hearing keeps cancelling agai and again and he doesn’t get bail as Gayatri’s Lawyer is strong what happens then forms the crux of the movie
Technical Review :Anurag Kashyap’s direction is too gritty, He doesn’t shy away from depicting police interrogation, loopholes in the legal system and jail life in all their disturbing realism.
The accused not only faces humilation of being tagged a rapist but also he has to deal with various gangs inside the prison all these scenes are shot in such a way that it feels like a real prison , there is little humour also involved when the inspector interogates the accused , direction and screenplay is good but the ending leaves a question mark and the story goes nowhere and ends abruptly.
Performances: Bobby Deol has given a powerful performance, he has gone deep into the skin of his character , There is this particular scence where he breaks down in front of his sister , that scene will tugbat the heart strings of the viewers , Sapna Pabbi Has Limited Screen Time but she shines in her character , Sanya Malhotra as Samar’s sister is good and Khushi played by Saba Azad is fine as per her character
Final Words : It’s not an easy watch as the jail scenes are not easy to navigate through
It’s a very disturbing movie
