Storyline :Michael Mason (Statham) lives alone on a remote Scottish island in isolation . He’s a recluse, clearly uninterested in people, and the movie takes its time letting us sit in that solitude. , Why he is off the grid is revealed later in the movie , However the calm is shattered as Mason spots a young girl Jesse (Bodhi Rae Breathnach; Hamnet) who helps her uncle delivers groceries and essential s to him , she is about to drown at sea..due to massive storm , Without hesitation Mason , plunges into the water and saves her life, though he’s unable to rescue her uncle.
Jesse is traumatized and alone, doesn’t trust him at first. She has no family left, and Mason is a stranger with a frightening intensity. Their uneasy bond later becomes the emotional spine of the film, As Jesse is hurt so to buy some medical essentials he goes to the mainland, from thereon The story takes a strong turn involving MI6
It be is revealed that Mason is former leader of MI-6 black ops team known as Black Kites. After a particularly trying mission where He did not follow direct order ,Mason went off the grid, living in isolation in the Outer Hebrides off the coast of Scotland
As soon as he reaches the town he’s caught on camera by the United Kingdom’s controversial homeland surveillance system. That brings him to the attention of Ackie’s Roberta Frost, the new head of the foreign intelligence agency MI6, as well as its former leader, Nighy’s Steven Manafort, who now works in the shadows at the behest of the prime minister (Harriet Walter,))
Thus, we get Mason, endeavoring to stay alive and, more importantly, fighting to protect Jessie, first on the island and then on the mainland, where Manafort unleashes a deadly operative, Workman (Bryan Vigier, )on them. All this forms the crux of the movie
Technical Review :Director Ric Roman Waugh has a nice, gritty visual style and the fists and bullets land hard here, There’s a car chase through the countryside that’s all straining steel and revving engines and a sequence in a London nightclub — every action movie apparently needs one
Performances: Jason Statham who is a great action master , but in this movie he has an emotional connect with Jesse which he has played to perfection
Bodhi Rae Breathnach, plays the young girl and she’s marvelous, a talent to watch
. Bill Nighy plays a venal spycraft master who also is surprisingly good at computer coding which he has brilliantly do
Final Words : Shelter” is everything you expect a Jason Statham movie to be, no more and no less.
