Overview : A powerful story of a woman seeking justice
Storyline: The story is set in 1967 U P where Shazia Bano ( Yami Gautam) a daughter of a maulvi , she fells in love with eminent &young Lawyer Abbas Khan ( Emraan Hashmi) , they both get married , Shazia and Abbas are happily married with 3 kids , after 7years of marriage trouble brews up when Abbas goes outstation for some property related work for 3 weeks but he returns home after 3 months that too with a new bride , Shazia is devastated , Abbas tells her that Saira ( Vartika Singh) is a widow and related to him , he had to marry her on humatarian grounds and that Shazia should accept her , Though Shazia is hurt but she slowly goes on with it but when she comes to know that Abbas has cheated on her , she decides to leave the house along with her children , the real battle begins when Abbas refuses to pay her maintenance amount for her kids and also gives her 3 talaq , she is hurt but determined to take up this matter in court , as her please is rejected in Muslim Law Board , buy she never gives up and from thereon her journey of long battle begins from session court to Allahabad High court and then the supreme court that forms the crux of the movie.
Technical Review : The story is based on the book ‘Bano: Bharat Ki Beti’ by Jigna Vora which itself is based on true events that happened in 1980’s.
Suparna Verma’s direction is superb and Sharia laws and Quran teachings are reflected in the movie to perfection , lot of research has been done on the subject of the movie that makes it a Powerful narrative.
Performances: Yami Gautam has given her best performance, The way she gets into the skin of the character is seen to be believed. Especially in the climax court scence she has nailed it Emraan Hashmi, too, puts his best foot forward. He’s the negative lead, but he doesn’t essay the role like a typical villain. This enhances the impact of his performance by many notches. Vartika Singh is ok , she has not much to do , Danish Husain (Shazia’s father), Sheeba Chadha (Bela Jain), Aseem Hattangady (Faraaz Ansari) leave a huge impact in the story
Final Words : It’s a must watch movie for all families as it is very hard hitting to the core of the community
