Overview : Seed of Sacred Fig brings drama and thrill together to offer a powerful drama against the oppressive nature of theocracy and the paranoia it induces among the people it governs.
Storyline : Iman (Missagh Zareh), a lawyer, is promoted to the role of an investigative judge in Tehran. To the delight of his wife Najmeh (Soheila Golestani) and teenage daughters Rezvan (Mahsa Rostami) and Sana (Setareh Maleki), he gets a pay rise and is provided with accommodation. However, an unpleasant part of his new job involves signing death approvals of convicts as young as 14 who are convicted due to unrest and protest going on in Tehran . He also gets a pistol for self-defence, as he would understandably become a target for the regime’s irate victims. The pistol goes missing and then the movie’s plot shifts it’s focus on finding the pistol , Iman suspects that someone from his family has taken the gun., from there on high octane drama begins to find the gun for which Iman will go to any length even if it means that he has to be harsh with his family , all this forms crux of the filmThe film’s climax culminates in car and foot chases against Iran’s picturesque rural landscape.
Technical Review : Rasoulof has given Master piece in the form of this movie
It is supreme testament to the skill of Rasoulof and his team in painting an organic portrait of a family caught up in a moment of volatile political rupture, wherein a new generation is standing up to years of oppression committed in the name of religion. All this is shown in as a slow burner which totally works for the script , Director has very well amalgated the political unrest in Iran 2022 -23 with the tension inside Iman’s home.
Performances : Missagh Zareh delivers a Halostic performance as Iman, portraying a man caught between the intricacies of his work and of his new role that has its internal conflicts His descent from a loving father to a figure of fear is terrifying. and nerve recking .Soheila Golestani shines as Najmeh, playing a perfect wife and perfect mother who jyst want to protect her daughter from the unrest going on in the city and at the same time , dealing with inner conflicts of her husbanf her quiet resilience and eventual defiance lend emotional depth to the film. The daughters, played by Mahsa Rostami and Setareh Maleki, bring youthful energy and simmering rebellion to their roles, offering a stark contrast to their father’s rigidity.

Final Words : Film is a must watch with masterful direction , strong performances and true potrayal of Iranian political scenario , all this leaves a powerful impact for a long time
