Overview : An attempt to make a romantic comedy film that goes haywire.
Storyline :Dreamgirl 2 is a spiritual sequel to Dream Girl 1 , as it is this time set on river bank of yamuna , in the town of mathura , this time around again Karam ( Ayushmann Khurana ) is in a tight spot financially with him and his father both out of work and indebted too , Karam had no choice but to turn into Pooja physically to fulfill the ultimatum put forward by his to be father in law played by Manoj Joshi to earn around 25 to 30 lakhs and own house within six months in order to marry Pari ( Ananya Pandey ) , karam’ girlfreind .Karam turns into pooja wearing sexy dresses and sarees and and starts working as a bar dancer at Sona Bhai’s Bar ( Vijay Raaz) as suggested by his best friend Smiley .The scheme to make a quick buck gets crazier courtesy his best friend Smiley Dhillon played by Manjot Singh. Pooja gets married into a wealthy Muslim family hoping to cure their son , Shah Rukh’s (Abhishek Banerjee) depression due to a failed affair, thereafter Karam/ Pooja finds himself in a sea full of unwanted situations , all this to achieve love of his life , how pooja/karam get tangled in tough situation forms the crux of the film.
Technical Review ; Director Raaj Shaandilya who had given Dream Girl 1 which was an epic comedy movie with this sequel he has made a mess of things , Director Raaj Shaandilyaa brings in the hilarious Punjabi movie Carry On Jatta’s writer Naresh Kathooria to help in the writing department and that helps majorly in the one-liners which are the best thing about the film’s comedy .Though Director vision to present pooja as object of desire by the male community of the town becomes a huge mess.Sexy voice of pooja in dreamgirl 1 was the usp of that film but presenting her physically in this sequel does not work.
Performances : Ayushmann Khurana has done a commendable job , he switches between Pooja and Karam with total skills , he totally shines particularly in dance sequences getting the latka’s and jhatka’s perfectly.He owns some of the best parts in the movie .Ananya Pandey has little scope to perform , also she struggles to get her brij basha dialect better.Paresh Rawal , Seema Pahwa , Vijay Raaz are good as per their role.
Final Words : Despite some good performances and moments , this sequel fails to live upto the charm of its predecessor.
