Review Of English Movie Gran Turismo -A Fascinating Car Racing Flick.

Director : Neill Blomkamp

Star Cast: David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, and more

Overview : Gran Turismo Movie  takes us on a ride through an underdog’s transformation from a dedicated PlayStation Gran Turismo player to a professional racecar driver.

Storyline:Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe) spends most afternoons playing ‘Gran Turismo’, which his parentsBut his dad (Djimon Hounsou) feels he’s wasting time playing video games and should be more practical like his brother (Daniel Puig), who is currently training hard as a footballer.  Jann refuses to give up no matter how discouraging his dad turns out to be. His persistence subsequently pays off when he is selected to compete against the world’s best sim drivers in a ‘Gran Turismo’ contest.

The prize? A lucrative spot to be trained as a professional race driver at GT Academy with Danny Moore (Orlando Bloom), the motorsport marketing executive who successfully pitched to Nissan in the first place, oversees the whole project. Moore recruited retired racer Jack Salter (David Harbour) to train the gamers to race like professionals. But the latter is skeptical about them succeeding in their training. There are, of course, eventual failures . From there on Jann’s new journey begins from being a gran turismo player to real hard core race driver , journey full of car races around the world become part of jann’s life , with many dangerous and life threatening sequences that  forms the crux of the film.

Technical Review : Director  Blomkamp brings a real tension and danger to his driving sequences, and when accidents happen, the sense of heat and brutal physics is borderline startling. The story itself may follow a rigid template, but the racing scenes are shot with a rawness and brio. The technical quality of the filmmaking is such that it’s not only difficult to spot the joins between live-action footage and CGI, or actor and stunt driver, but you become too absorbed to even think about it.

Blomkamp also does a good job walking a fine line between depicting the racing action in a realistic, immersive way while staying true to the style of the gameplay.

Performances : Archie Madekwe shows he has what it takes to lead a movie. He is ably backed by supporting cast Orlondo Bloom as Marketing Executive of GT is brilliant ,

David Harbor impresses the most with his scene-stealing turn as Jack Salter. He may have been tough and doesn’t sugarcoat when training the participating sim drivers to push themselves to the limit physically and mentally. And yet, beneath his gruff exterior lies a man with a warm personality after all, as evidently seen with his eventual trainer-and-trainee relationship with Madekwe’s Jann. He has perfectly played this role ti perfection.

Final Words : Gran Turismo is a fantastic and thrilling car racing movie which one can enjoy this weekend
