Overview : A family oriented emotional and colorful drama.
Storyline : The film is set in Delhi wherein Rocky (Ranveer Singh ) belongs to powerful punjabi family who is in business of sweets led By Rocky’s Grandmother ( Jaya Bachchan) and his father , Rocky is on the lookout for a lady named Jamini who his Grandfather played by Dharmendra who has lost his memory , he always keep on saying this name , while tracking Jamini ( Shabana Azmi)for his grandfather he meets Jamini’s granddaughter Rani Chatterjee (Alia Bhatt), he falls in love with her head over heels , from there begins their love story , apart from working on getting his grandfather’s memory back with the help of jamini , even Rock and Rani’s love story have to face rough weathers , from dealing with Rocky’s dysfunctional family to the cultural and social differences between two families , dealing with temperament, attitude etc ,this roller coaster forms the crux of the film.
Technical Review : After a long gap Karan Johar is back to direction , he has given many family oriented and melodious movies. The difference in this movie is the presence of legends like Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi makes it a class apart , Also Karan Johar has very cleverly presented the bollywood classic songs in the movie at various points which makes it nostalgic and entertaining. The music and screenplay is strong , A perfect blend of Emotions , Comedy ,Drama And Music. The only backseat is the length of the movie, especially the second half which is way too long and monotonous.
Performances : Ranveer Singh is at its best ,he is totally in his form depicting his energy in all forms , emotions , comedy and colorful clothes which are his usp..Alia is also good matching upto Ranveers Energy and Over the top performance ..Alia gives her best performance in climax during face off with Rocky’s father Its a delight to watch legends like Dharmendra , Shabana Azmi ,and Jaya Bachchan perform.Others are fine as per their role.
Final Words : It’s a fine movie, totally entertaining and paisa vasool , with larger than life canvas .A good weekend watch with family.
