Review Of Movie Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway – An Excellent & Emotional Movie

Overwiew : The story  is the adaptation from the book The Journey Of A Mother, which is an autobiography of Sagarika Chakraborty, on whose life the story is based

Storyline : The opening shot of the movie takes us on mesmerising aura of norway only to be thrown in the next shot into a distress mother Mrs Debika  Chatterjee (Rani Mukherjee)  running for her life to save her toddlers from the Norwegian Child Welfare Services Velfred .The movie then goes to flashback moments as from last ten weeks velfred organisation were having surveillance of chatterjee home ,As per their observation  Velfred obtains her kids because Debika is not a fit mother to them because she makes them eat food with their hands, apply kohl to their face & other things primarily based on the ‘cultural difference’. Debika, without any support from anyone, tries to do everything possible to get her children back, From thereon her mission begins to get her kids back , while her husband is only concerned to secure his norway citizenship , Debika doesn’t leave any stone unturned and moves from office to office and from welfare court to family courts and what not to get her children back , in her mission lots of controversies are revelled , how agency like velfred is into foster homes scam etc ..

Technical Review : Director Ashima Chibber has very well directed the movie , The task of emoting a mother’s pain is beautifully carried out by the script, relying heavily on an astounding performance by Rani Mukerji. Though the first half seems dragging and monotonous but the second half picks up especially climax scenes in Indian Court  is brilliantly directed..The dailogue ” Main buri maa hu ya achi maa hu nahi janti lekin main maa hu ” will take your heart away 

Performances : Rani Mukherjee has given performance of a lifetime , In the first half wherein she has to be loud and edgy  and emotional  will totally connect to all mothers , in the second half she is much calmer and speaks more with her eyes which will connect with all women irrespective of any caste or creed. 

Anirban Bhattacharya delivers an all-controlled performance understanding the assignment of being a shady husband to a loving wife.

Jim Sarbh’s character as an Indian Norwegian lawyer builds intrigue retaining the viewers’ attention. The perfect way of showcasing subtlety helps him to be on both sides of the fence, evoking curiosity throughout the film.

Balaji Gauri, who plays the Bengali Lawyer in the second half; her performance turns the table, saving the story from getting repetitive She brings the turning point in the script with her  effective performance . 

Final Words : A brilliant court room drama of a helpless mother fighting against the country to get her kids back ,  A must watch movie
