Overview : A borderline dysfunctional family that comes close as a result of a tragic situation in family.
Storyline : The story revolves around a nuclear family of parents and four children who are sçattered in different parts of the globe .The story opens with the sequence of Tara ( Rashmika Mandanna) , daughter of the family , she is in mumbai and celebrating sucesss of her career , when her father calls her but she is unable to ans , next mrng when she comes to senses she comes to know that her mother has expired suddenly , she rushes home and others also reach chandigarh.
They all gather together again for the funeral of the lady of the house, Gayathri (Neena Gupta). The man of the house Harish (Amitabh Bachchan) has literally broken all emotional strings with the daughter, Tara (Rashmika Mandanna), and three sons. During the funeral ceremony, they fight and argue with others and recall many past events that have now become their very dear memories. Tara keeps on arguing and questioning each and every ritual of the funeral .Gayathri was the one who kept their lives going smoothly, and now after her farewell, they had to deal with their problems by themselves. What new memories and bonds they create are what form the crux of the second half of the story.
Technical Review : Director Vikas Bahl has potrayed a very emotional tale which deals with reality of today’s time , where generation gap , and differnce of opinions between 2 generations is showed in a realistic way .How the tragic situation gets them to realise the importance of family.How we have to let go of any shortcomings and move on…Though the director has put up many humourous moments amidst the funeral rituals , but they dont necessarily sync well with the storyline , there are many flaws in the film but will make each and every viewer emotional.
Performances : Amitabh Bachchan is a legend is superb in portraying a disgruntled father undergoing abandonment anxiety. There is a scence where he has to disposes his wife ashes , there he has poured his heart out which will leave you to cry .
Rashmika Mandanna portrays her parts well and lends the necessary emotive depth to ‘GoodBye’.
Neena Gupta has done a wonderful role ..others are fine as per their role.
Final Words : Its not an easy movie to watch.
Vikas Bahl does manage to surprise with a few elements like the animated romance which is a flashback of romance between Harish and Gayathri but nothing more than that.
