Overwiew: Gangubai kathiawadi is based on the book Mafia Queen of Kamathipura, by Hussaini Zaidi..Movie showcases the sad and intiguing journey of Ganga to Gangu and then Gangubai Kathiawadi
Storyline : This story is of an innocent girl Ganga (Alia Bhatt) from kathiawad , belonging to a well to do family, the only thing is that she had aspiration of becoming a film heroine, in that quest she trusts her life with next door boy and elopes to Mumbai to fulfill her dreams but her dreams were shattered the minute she reaches mumbai and comed to know that she has been sold to a brothel in kamathipura area of Mumbai,wherein she is tortured and forced into prostitution..One such incident shooks her to her core and she decides to make herself strong , from there evolves transformation to Gangu , with support from Karim Lala (Ajay Devgan), she takes the reign of the brothrel in her hand after the house lady passes away , she makes life of all woman at ease , then the situation turns yet again and she enters the feild of politics to protect the women in brothel from becoming homeless , she also aims to get basic human rights of education for children of prostitutes, from thereon she becomes Gangubai Kathiawadi..
Technical Reveiew : Sanjay Leela Bhansali has poured his heart out in this movie..After many blockbuster , Bhansali has presented this movie which is technically brilliant , he has very well recreated that era and Kamathipura brothrel realistically.. Bhansali has managed to show the state mind of a prostitute with every minute details.
The dailogues are really something to look forward to.
Performances : Alia Bhatt has given the best performance of her career..She has totally pushed herself and fitted herself perfectly into the role..Her eyes has the sadness, but her face has a smile , her heart craves for love but she sacrifices her love to protect the future generation from this hell of life of prostitutes…All the roles if an activist, leader and a mother and lover she has dawned all this with complete perfection .Ajay Devgn plays Karim Lala with his gangster attitude. It comes naturally to him and helps the film to have a dramatic character. Seema Pahwa deserves this role and many others like this one. She isn’t just made for comedy and she proves that to the entire industry. Jim Sarbh is adorable and perfect in his cameo this time
Final Word :This movie is a game changer for the career of both Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali ..This movie is a class apart with Brilliant Performance by Alia Bhatt .Do watch this master piece in Theatre only
