Review Of Movie Assi – An Hard Hitting But Impactful Story

Cast: Taapsee Pannu, Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak, Seema Pahwa

Director: Anubhav Sinha

Overview: Assi is a  gritty, and empathetic crime drama film

Storyline:  The story is set in Delhi , where Parima (Kani Kusrati)  who is a school teacher , One day while she was returning by metro from a school farewell party , outside the metro station Parima is abducted by  4 boys  and she is physically assaulted and  gang raped hen thrown on road railway tracks , next morning she is taken to hospital , Advocate Raavi ( Tapsee Panu ) takes up Parima’s case  and does everything in her power  to deliver justice .
But  there are many odd against them ,
Parima fails to identify the rapists. DNA samples do not match. There is no concrete evidence to directly implicate the accused. After this everything is a out to collapse with justice about to be denied , some twist happens and mysterious  movement happens in the form Umbrella man , who mysteriousally kills 2 of the 4 accused , who is this mysterious man and what happenes to the case forms the crux of the film

Technical Review : Anubhav Sinha who has delivered many movies , this time he has worked on a very had hitting subject , Delhi is infamous for women’s safety issues and is often labeled one of the most unsafe cities in India for women. Anubhav Sinha brings this bitter reality to life once again through its narrative, underlining the seriousness and sensitivity of a brutal crime like rape but the film suffers from  glaring flaws and cout room proceedings also lacks precision The legal drama should have been smarter and tighter. Kumud Mishra’s character, unfortunately, makes very little sense. His presence feels messy and underdeveloped.  Inspite of some flaws what makes the film work are its hard-hitting comments. There are moments where the dialogues pierce through the flaws. The involvement of a child in the narrative, and the final verdict delivered by a female judge in front of schoolchildren — these sequences land with impact. They make strong moral sense. Director has given strong message that every 20 mins a rape takes place , 80 cases happen every day but  justice not happens  due to lack of evidence or lack of support and no security

Performances:  Tapsee Pannu is good and persistent in many court room sequences but then some times she takes a detour and loses consistency. Kani has done this difficult role in a very realistic way , she has depicted the after math trauma too in a very perfect way

Mohammed Zeeshan  Ayub plays Supportive but silent husband he could have done better job , Kumud Mishra’s character is under devoloped , his character suffers from poor writing , Revathi as the female judge is very good as per her role

Final Words : It’s a hard hitting movie , it certainly leaves and impact  that it is responsibility of our and next generation to do better and make society a better and safe place for women to live in

Ratings : 3.5/*5*
