Overview : Shamshera is a period action drama .Fight of freedom from caste and creed injustice
Storyline :Set in British India during the 19th century, Shamshera (Ranbir Kapoor) is the leader of the Khameran tribe, who are considered as outcasts by the upper caste residents of a province called Khaza. In retaliation, he and his men loot the rich men and earn enough gold to attract the attention of the British rulers. A devious upper-caste police officer, Daroga Sadhu Singh (Sanjay Dutt) strikes a deal between Shamshera and the British promising the former a piece of land where his tribe could stay fearless as free residents.Shamshera trust him abd agrees to surrender to british to protect his tribe , before Shamshera realises his folly, he and his tribe, along with his pregnant wife (Iravati Harshe), are trapped in a fort of khaza . Shamshera is killed, his own people think he is a traitor and his son Balli (Ranbir, again) grows up with the label of a traitor’s son and yearns to be a police officer in the British army.
Ofcourse, he soon discovers his father’s true legacy, and Balli then seeks out on his life’s purpose continuing on his father’s footsteps with his own band of men , while romancing the gorgeous nautch girl Sona (Vaani Kapoor)..
Technical Review : Visually the film is spectacular but the screenplay is lacking zist and the run time is too lagging .The first half of the movie looks promising , but the second half is dragging .The first half is quiet captivating ..The first half also have songs that are little refreshing especially choreography in ji huzoor deserves applause. Some scenes are beautifully shot like the scene where Balli continues in the footsteps where Shamshera had left .Also special mention of cgi crows that keep appearing at crucial points in the movie that only Balli can control the movie does not harp on it , as if spirit of shamshera is directing them .What should have been an interesting tale of Bally be the robinhood of Kaza turns out to be a much predictable tale that refuses to end.
Though there is some glamour potion in Vaani Kapoor’s role being a feisty dancer but that also vanishes in the second half when she marries bally and gets pregnant.
Performances : After 4 long years Ranbir Kapoor is back on Silver Screen after sucess of Sanju , the expectations were high for his perfomance in Shamshera .He has lived upto the audience expectations and given his all to this movie but the storyline is just not insync with his performance.
Vaani kapoor has nothing much to do in the movie though in first half she died add glamour potion which is refreshing .
Sanjay dutt character reminds of kgf character with a twist that in this movie he is cartoonishly evil.
Final Words : Watch it for Ranbir Kapoor’s Performance but in theatre to enjoy this visually spectacular movie
