Review of Movie Samrat Prithviraj- Saga of Valour And Honour

Overview :  Samrat Prithviraj is based on Chand Bardai’s Prithviraj Raso, an epic poem traced back to the 13th century, which gained major popularity in the 19th century

Storyline  : The film opens with Samrat Prithvi Raaj (Akshay Kumar) , is captive of  Sultan of Afghan Mohammed Gori  , he has captured Prithviraj treacherously,  Prithviraj who has been blinded by Mohammed Gori’s soldier.In his pain state he remembers his wife sanyogita( Manushi Chillar), from there the story goes behind in flashback.

Pritiviraj gives asylum to the brother of Muhammed Ghori (Manav Vij), a ruler of the Ghurid dynasty – present day Afghanistan. Ghori then invades India in retaliation and is defeated by Prithviraj..But Prithviraj does not kill him as , he is a great warrior .

Prithviraj  is the ruler of Ajmer and Sanyogita (Manushi Chhillar), the daughter of the ruler of Kannauj, Jayachandra (Ashutosh Rana), have never seen each other and have only heard of each other’s beauty and valour .They do exchange letters, on a regular basis and fall in love.. 

The ruler of Delhi, a distant relative, abdicates in favour of Prithviraj, effectively making him the ruler of a large part of India.

Jayachandra is against this and plots revenge. Later, Sangyogita elopes with Prithviraj, turning the enmity even more bitter. 

Jayachandra bribes Ghori to fight with Prithviraj and hand over Prithviraj to him 

Ghori invades again and wins this time through treachery. Prithviraj is captured and brought to Ghajini. Ghori again plays game and doesn’t hand over prithviraj to Jayachandra , what happens next forms the rest of story.

Technical Review :Though the production wise the movie has grand sets and visually it is grand , but Director Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi has not given a good screenplay and the war sequences are too scanty ..Though the film is an ode to the honour and valour of Prithviraj in particular and rajputs in general. His heroic qualities are showcased in full splendour..but still that grandeur is missing , it looks like director was in lot of hurry to finish the movie  . The diretor has also showcased in the film  Later, Prithviraj is shown giving Sanyogita an equal place as the ruler, making a case for having women as leaders. a case for the equality of women.

Performances : Akshay Kumar has treid his best to play this historic character to perfection , but he fails to play this character perfectly , his voice and body language ard voice not that of a yodha ..

 Manushi Chhillar as Sanyogita us average , still a long road of learning for her ..Sonu Sood as a Poet and Warrior is good …Rest are good as per their role.

Final Words : The film shows that its our own disunity  that favoured invaders to attack us , the moghuls , british and what not invaded us , the movie teaches a lesson that united we stand and divided we fall..
