Overview .The relationship between two women who meet while giving birth is at the heart of Pedro Almodóvar’s engaging new film

Storyline :Penelope Cruz stars as Janis, a successful Madrid-based photographer. She turns to one of her subjects, a forensic anthropologist named Arturo (Israel Elejalde), for advice on something very personal to her. She and other members of her family’s village know the location of a mass grave from the Spanish Civil War era. The relatives and ancestors want help properly excavating it. Arturo agrees to help and get necessay permission to exca vate .In the process, their relationship gets personal, and Janis gets pregnant.
In the hospital, she shares a room with a pregnant teenager, Ana (Milena Smit). Both will raise their babies as single mothers, and so they bond well. They exchange phone numbers and agree to stay in touch.
Janis names her daughter Cecilia, to honour her grandmother, and gets on with life as a single mother.
Janis stays in touch with Ana, who has also taken to motherhood despite a rather fraught relationship with her mother Teresa (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón), an actress in her late forties whose stage career has suddenly taken off. She has to go on the road, leaving Ana at home with the baby and a helper. After this comes a major twist as Janis and Ana’s lifes inter twine leading to major change..

Techical Review ; Director Pedro Almodavour has given a fantastic screenplay of the movie ,there are abrupt flashbacks, melodramatic situations, and odd tonal shifts in the narrative. The director has managed to make a tidy bun with connecting the dots between messy spanish civil war and emotional journey of motherhood and female bonding neatly , presenting a fragrant bouquet .

Performances : This is Penelope Cruz seventh time working with the acclaimed filmmaker. this performance stands among the very best she’s given in one of his movies. Her transition from a freewheeling fortysomething in the midst of a tryst to an anxious mother with mounting uncertainty about her situation is heart-wrenching and utterly convincing. She has done the role with total intensity ..
Smit who is playing the role of Ana , though she is a newcomer has played her role to perfection , no matter how her role gets knotty and complicated as the story progresses.
Final Words :Pedrò Almodavar has presented the movie withgrace and beauty amid suffering, and keeping memory alive, thats good reason enough to watch movie in theatre near you.
